Thiam elected to EMBO
Abdou Rachid Thiam has been elected to the European Molecular Biology Organization, or EMBO. Thiam is one of 69 scientists in the 2025 class. According to EMBO, these scientists have demonstrated research excellence in various fields, including RNA, plant biology, epidemiology, molecular medicine, and more. Thiam was recognized during the EMBO Members’ Meeting in Heidelberg, Germany, in October.
Thiam is the research director at the École normale supérieure and the French National Centre for Scientific Research. His research focuses on lipid and organelle function and how kinetics, energetics and dynamics of membrane-associated processes impact cellular behavior.
He has won many awards, including the Claude Paoletti Prize, the CNRS Bronze Medal, the Thomas E. Thompson Award, the Innovators Prize from the Île-de-France Region and was selected for Le Point Inventors Honors List. In addition, he served as a session chair and speaker during the 2023 American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology annual meeting.
