Student Chapters
ASBMB Student Chapters are a national community of undergraduate students and faculty members promoting the advancement of biochemistry and molecular biology research, education and science outreach. ASBMB provides networking and career-development opportunities with grants and awards to support members' academic and career goals.

Start or renew a chapter
Information about how to start or renew a student chapter for the 2026–2027 academic year will be available in late summer 2026.

Eligibility
- All chapters must be sponsored by a faculty adviser who is an active professional member of the ASBMB. This adviser will be the primary contact for the chapter's activities.
- A minimum of five students is required to receive full chapter benefits.
Chapter responsibilities
- Create an organizational structure. We recommend you elect chapter leaders (e.g. president, secretary, treasurer) to share responsibilities.
- Recruit new members.
- Organize science outreach activities.
- Work with other chapters in your region to organize regional meetings.
- Attend the ASBMB annual meeting.
Adviser responsibilities
- Support student activities within the chapter.
- Serve as a mentor for students.
- Share new chapter activities with regional directors or through the Student Chapters Facebook page.
- Encourage applications for ASBMB scholarships and awards.
