Program Details



The goals of the grant program are to:

  • Provide outlets for bringing science to the general public
  • Encourage and enhance ASBMB member participation in outreach
  • Encourage undergraduates to engage in science outreach
  • Help initiate outreach programming in local communities
  • Facilitate sustained partnerships between ASBMB Student Chapters and local outreach organizations
  • Establish a dedicated national network of outreach organizers and participants

While there is no one specific type of activity or program that can be supported by these grants, there are several examples of previous or ongoing activities at ASBMB Student Chapters that are appropriate:


Only active ASBMB Student Chapters are eligible to apply. Chapters can only apply ONCE per calendar year. There are two application deadlines each year:

  • April 15 Changed to May 1, 2017!
  • November 15

Applications received after the deadline will be considered for the following grant cycle. 


Applications will be reviewed on the following criteria:

  1. Is the program feasible and well-thought-out? 
  2. Does the program meet an existing need? Is it tailored to a specific target audience?
  3. Does the proposal contain an appropriate system to measure the impact and effectiveness of the proposed activities?
  4. Is the budget appropriate for the proposed project?
