As of April 1, 2013, all articles published under the Author’s Choice option in ASBMB journals carry the CC-BY license . Previously, the Author’s Choice publishing option carried a license that made the sharing, adaptation and use for noncommercial purposes free so long as the original authors were credited. The CC-BY license does that but also allows the sharing, adaptation and use for commercial purposes free. It should be noted that attribution does not suggest that the original authors have endorsed the party distributing, remixing or using the publication.

The CC-BY license applies to all three of the ASBMB journals: The Journal of Biological Chemistry (JBC), Molecular & Cellular Proteomics (MCP) and the Journal of Lipid Research (JLR).

In addition, all papers published under the Author’s Choice option before April 1, 2013, will be relicensed with the CC-BY. Readers will continue to see a link on those articles to the original license restricting commercial use (“noncommercial”). This notice confirms that the license for these articles has changed to the attribution license described herein.
