ASBMB accreditation program and certification exam
The ASBMB accredits departments and programs that offer
bachelor’s degrees in biochemistry, molecular biology or related subjects.
ASBMB accreditation recognizes undergraduate programs whose features and
infrastructure fulfill the basic expectations of the society.
ASBMB Student Chapters program
The ASBMB Student Chapters is devoted to building a national network of
undergraduate students and faculty members for the advancement of research,
education and science outreach.
ASBMB meetings
The
annual meeting has many events for educators, including opportunities
to network, sessions on undergraduate education and workshops to improve
teaching skills. Undergraduate faculty travel awards are available. The
ASBMB also supports an undergraduate education small meeting every two
years.
Promoting Active Learning & Mentoring project
The PALM network was
established to spark sustained biology education reform at diverse
institutions through one-on-one mentorships for faculty members new to
approaches based on Vision and Change recommendations. The ASBMB is a partner
society in the PALM network. ASBMB members can apply for PALM
fellowships, which provide funding for mentoring visits and meeting
travel.
Concept-driven teaching strategies project
The project website contains information on the society-developed
foundational concepts of biochemistry and molecular biology, course
materials and assessment instruments and tools. The project originally
was funded by the National Science Foundation.
Award for Exemplary Contributions to Education
This award recognizes an individual who
encourages effective teaching and learning of biochemistry and
molecular biology through his or her own teaching, leadership in
education, writing, educational research, mentoring or public
enlightenment.
