Access and Diversity Policy Paper 

American Council on Education01/26/10 -- The American Council on Education and the College Board have produced a new paper on major developments and trends in the area of access and diversity in higher education. "A 21st-Century Imperative: Promoting Access and Diversity in Higher Education," discusses the connection between diversity and positive educational outcomes, the issue of merit, and the expanded definition of diversity.  Read the full report.

CHCI 2010-11 Graduate & Young Professional Fellowship Program

Capitol12/21/09 -- The Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute, the nation's premier Hispanic educational and youth leadership development organization, is seeking applicants for its Graduate and Young Professional Development Fellowships.  The program offers exceptional Latino who have a master's degree or higher unparalleled exposure to experiences in the underserved public policy areas of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM), health, housing, law and international affairs.  Fellowship application deadline is February 19, 2010.  Learn more.    

Enhancing Neuroscience Diversity through Undergraduate Research  

NIH12/10/09 -- A NIH Blueprint Program for Enhancing Neuroscience Diversity through Undergraduate Research Education Experiences is a grant opportunity aimed at encouraging and preparing undergraduate students from diverse backgrounds to enter Ph.D. degree programs in the neurosciences. Eligible applicants are public, state private and minority serving institutions.  Read synopsis.  

NSF Tribal Colleges and Universities Program 

NSF12/10/09 -- This program provides awards to enhance the quality of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) instructional and outreach programs at Tribal Colleges and Universities, Alaskan Native-serving Institutions and Native Hawaiian-serving institutions.  Read the full program soliciation. 


ASBMB Attracts Undergraduates at SACNAS 
 

SACNAS smallIn its 9th year of attendance at the Society for Advancing Hispanics/Chicanos & Native Americans in Science National Conference, ASBMB recruited 77 new undergraduate student members.  ASBMB staff Gail Pinder and Weiyi Zhao and Minority Affairs Committee members Dr. Tom Landefeld and Dr. Frank Talamantes participated in the largest SACNAS meeting in history in Dallas, TX, October 14-18.
