Northeastern receives 2013 ASBMB UAN Outstanding National Chapter Award

This year’s Outstanding National Chapter Award is awarded to Northeastern University in recognition of its leadership in education activities in the areas of biochemistry and molecular biology, exceptional commitment to increasing public scientific awareness, interaction with other campus activities and events, participation in regional and national meetings and sustained chapter activity.

Dr. David Budil is the chapter advisor.  Chapter members include Jennifer Endress, Chapter President, Erin Askounis, Treasurer, Rachel Yao, Secretary, Samantha Genardi, Volunteer Chair and Benjamin Viera. 

Notable accomplishments include hosting workshops featuring on science careers and graduate school, outreach activities in local high schools to perform science demonstrations and to tell kids about studying Biochemistry in college, participating in campus-wide Open House to guide prospective students to Northeastern, and drafting and signing a petition to the Massachusetts State legislators to resolve the Sequester and restore funding to biomedical research. 

An award ceremony will be held to recognize the Northeastern University UAN and its members during the Education Award Lecture on Sunday, April 21, at 12:30PM during the ASBMB Annual Meeting in Boston.
