ASBMB adopts CC-BY license for all Author’s Choice articles

Follows new requirement from Wellcome Trust and RCUK

Research Council of the United Kingdom logoMarch 18, 2013 — As of April 1, all articles published under the Author’s Choice option in ASBMB journals will carry the CC-BY license. This change will expand Author’s Choice articles’ discoverability, distribution and use and will meet the needs of authors funded by Wellcome Trust and Research Councils United Kingdom, which require the CC-BY license for articles about research that they fund.

The Author’s Choice publishing option previously carried a license that made the sharing, adaptation and use for noncommercial purposes free so long as the original authors were credited. The new CC-BY license does that and goes one step further by allowing the sharing, adaptation and use for commercial purposes free as well. It should be noted that attribution does not suggest that the original authors have endorsed the party distributing, remixing or using the publication.

The CC-BY license will apply to all three of the ASBMB journals: The Journal of Biological Chemistry (JBC), Molecular & Cellular Proteomics (MCP) and the Journal of Lipid Research (JLR).

In addition, all papers published under the Author’s Choice option before April 1, 2013, will be relicensed with the CC-BY.
