Member Type Descriptions

 ASBMB offers the following membership types: regular, associate, affiliate, graduate student, undergraduate student or emeritus. Please see the criteria below for each membership type. Applications are accepted at any time during the year and may be submitted online, by mail or by fax.

Regular Membership ($140)  
Available to anyone with a doctoral degree who has published at least one paper pertaining to biochemistry or molecular biology in a refereed journal. Upon review and approval of the application by the executive officer, the applicant will be accepted as a member and be so notified.

Associate Membership ($70)  
Available to postdoctoral fellows (or equivalent) or early-career scientists. Associate status is limited to five years unless postdoctoral (or equivalent) appointment is reaffirmed by a mentor or faculty member. Eligible for automatic promotion to Regular Membership once criteria are satisfied. Associate members may not hold elective office, endorse new members, or sponsor nonmembers at the society's annual scientific meeting.

NEW in 2017! Postdocs may join the National Postdoctoral Association for one year for free when they join or renew their ASBMB membership, compliments of the ASBMB.

Affiliate Membership ($45)  
Available to those ineligible for Regular or Early-Career membership — typically educators at colleges or high schools, employees of government agencies or nongovernmental or nonprofit organizations, scientists in industries related to biochemistry and molecular biology, and members of the public with a strong interest in biochemistry and molecular biology. Affiliate members may not hold elective office, endorse new members, or sponsor nonmembers at the society's annual scientific meeting.

Graduate Membership ($25)  
Available to graduate students. Graduate membership is limited to five years. Eligible for automatic promotion to associate membership once criteria are satisfied. Graduate members may not vote, hold elective office or sponsor nonmembers at the society's annual scientific meeting.

Undergraduate Student Membership ($10)
Available to enrolled students pursuing bachelor's degrees. Student members may not vote, hold elective office or sponsor nonmembers at the society's annual scientific meeting.

ASBMB Student Chapters
If there are multiple students at a school, consider starting a student chapter of the ASBMB.  Student Chapters members receive additional award and scholarship benefits. Learn more.  

Emeritus Membership  
Available to any ASBMB regular member who is a retiree and whose member dues are current. To apply for emeritus status, supply the ASBMB with a letter or e-mail stating your official retirement date and pay a one-time fee of $100. Emeritus members are entitled to all privileges of regular members but may not hold elective office.
