Christopher K. Glass receives JLR's 50th Anniversary Award
Sept. 10 2009--A Journal of Lipid Research 50th Anniversary award was given to ASBMB member Dr. Chris Glass at the Kern Aspen Lipid Conference which was held at the Given Institute in Colorado August 22nd-25th, 2009. Dr. Glass is a Professor of Medicine, and Professor of Cellular and Molecular Medicine at the University of California, San Diego. His presentation was entitled, "Receptor Repression Pathways that Regulate Inflammation". Dr. Ira Goldberg, Journal of Lipid Research Associate Editor presented the award.
Ira W Levin receives 2009 Pittsburgh Spectroscopy Award
Dr. Levin is the Chief of the Section on Molecular Biophysics at the National Institutes of Health and is currently the Acting Scientific Director of the Division of Intramural Research in the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases. Dr. Levin’s research focuses on understanding conformational, dynamic, thermodynamic, and functional properties of intact and model membranes. His research primarily use vibrational, infrared, and Raman spectroscopic techniques. He has spent considerable effort on understanding specific lipid-lipid and lipid-protein interactions with a particular interest in the formation and physiological roles of microdomains within biological membranes.
Jay Horton Given Journal of Lipid Research Award
June 5, 2009--A Journal of Lipid Research 50th Anniversary award was given to ASBMB member Dr. Jay Horton, MD at the Annual Spring meeting of the ATVB Council of the American Heart Association. Dr. Horton is the Dr. Robert C. and Veronica Atkins Chair in Obesity and Diabetes Research and a professor of Internal Medicine and Molecular Genetics at UT Southwestern. More. . .
Sarah Spiegel to receive the 2009 Avanti Award
Sarah Spiegel of the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine will be presented with the 2009 Avanti Award in Lipids at the ASBMB Annual meeting in New Orleans. This award honors outstanding scientists whose research interests are in the field of lipids. Spiegel will present her award lecture on Sunday, Apr. 19 at 2:10 p.m. More . . .
