    December 14, 2009--In this podcast we will hear JBC Associate Editor James Siedow of Duke University interview JBC author Ludger Beerhues, a professor of pharmaceutical biology at the University of Braunschweig in Germany, about his paper on how a single point mutation in a metabolic plant enzyme produced a mutant with new and potentially useful properties. Beerhues also talks about the potential applications of metabolic engineering in fighting agricultural pests such as fire blight in apple and pear trees and a fungus that attacks St. John's Wort.
