Editor’s note

an APEX award of
excellence for her
profile of Billy Hudson
published in ASBMB
Today in December.

Dear readers,

Please join me in congratulating ASBMB Today science writer Rajendrani Mukhopadhyay for her recent writing award. Raj’s profile of W. Neal Burnette in January garnered an award of excellence in the annual APEX competition. She told the story of how Burnette as a postdoc contributed to the development of what is now known as the Western blot and how Burnette later went on to have quite an unusual career. It is gratifying to have Raj’s storytelling and reporting recognized with this award. It is a pleasure to work alongside such a creative and hardworking journalist.

Also recognized with an award for excellence was my October article about the Courage Unmasked exhibit, an endeavor that transforms masks worn by cancer patients during radiation therapy into works of art. Read about how artist Deb Johnson used the pages of the Journal of Biological Chemistry in her mask for the exhibit in the article “Mounting a campaign for a cure.”
