  • ASBMB 2016 Annual Meeting

Graduate Students & Postdocs

GRADUATE AND POSTDOC EVENT SCHEDULE
The large number and variety of events offered at the 2016 Experimental Biology Annual Meeting can be overwhelming. To help you get the most out of the meeting, we selected key events of interest to graduate students and postdoctoral fellows.

ASBMB GAME NIGHT
Grad students and postdocs can join the ASBMB in room 6A of the San Diego Convention Center on Monday from 6:30-9pm for an evening of science-themed trivia, networking, contests and other games. The event will start with food and drinks. Grad students and postdocs who are members of the ASBMB or registered under biochemistry are encouraged to attend in casual attire. Alcohol will not be served to those under 21 or those without proper ID.

CAREER DEVELOPMENT SESSIONS
Whether you are considering your career options, already applying for jobs or committed to starting your own lab, these comprehensive pre-meeting discussion sessions will prepare you for the next step. This event, which is exclusively for graduate students and postdocs, will begin Saturday afternoon with discussions on pathways to research independence, taking the industrial route and implementing your individual development program.

TRAVEL AWARDEE PROGRAM (Fri & Sat)
This event will precede the Career Development Sessions listed above and is exclusively for graduate student and postdoc travel awardees, who are required to attend (no registration required). Travel awardees are required to complete the "Assessment" and "Consider Career Fit" portions of the my IDP program prior to the event.

EB 2016/FASEB CAREER CENTER
There are numerous career development resources and events offered through the career center. The EB2016/FASEB Virtual Career Fair also will operate between March 9 and April 6, 2016, and will be available on the internet at http://careers.faseb.org.

STRAIGHT FROM THE BENCH
Straight from the Bench session proposals were submitted by ASBMB graduate student and postdoctoral fellow members interested in organizing sessions on exciting and emerging areas not otherwise covered in this year’s program. "Post-translational Modification" and "Recent Advances in Protein Engineering" were selected as this year's featured topics. Short talks will be selected from volunteered abstracts submitted by student and postdoc first authors to ASBMB topic categories #2000-2110.
