In 1995, Dr. Susanna Greer received her Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Berry College in Rome, GA where she was also a founding member of the Berry College Forensics and Debate teams. Dr. Greer received her Ph.D. in Microbiology and Immunology from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 2000 and, following completion of her Ph.D., joined the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill as a Postdoctoral Fellow. In 2001, Dr. Greer was awarded a Postdoctoral Fellowship from the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. In 2005, Dr. Greer was recruited to the Department of Biology at Georgia State University as a Georgia Cancer Coalition Distinguished Cancer Scholar, where she is now a tenured Associate Professor and Associate Director of the Molecular Basis of Disease Area of Focus. Dr. Greer is also a Research Scholar of the American Cancer Society. At Georgia State University, Dr. Greer directs the research of six graduate students and one postdoctoral fellow. Trainees in the Greer lab learn the importance of effective science communication and are vigorously trained in lay communication techniques.
