JBC Thematic Minireview Series - Biofilms

April 21, 2016 — The biofilms that many bacteria and fungi produce enable them to form communities, adhere tightly to surfaces, evade host immunity, and resist antibiotics. Pathogenic micro-organisms that form biofilms are very difficult to eradicate and thus are a frequent source of life threatening, hospital acquired infections. This series of five minireviews from the Journal of Biological Chemistry provides a broad overview of our current understanding of biofilms and the challenges that remain.

Journal of Biological Chemistry names new editor in chief

LilaThe American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology announced Tuesday that Lila M. Gierasch, a distinguished faculty member at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, will be the next editor in chief of the Journal of Biological Chemistry, the nonprofit’s peer-reviewed journal. Gierasch’s five-year term will begin July 1. She will take the reins from the journal's interim editor, F. Peter Guengerich, a researcher at Vanderbilt University and longtime associate editor who has steered the highly cited journal since July 2015.

JBC Thematic Minireview Series - Intrinsically Disordered Proteins

February 5, 2016 — In this thematic minireview series, the JBC presents six exciting articles on low complexity or intrinsically disordered proteins (IDPs). This collection of reviews discusses biophysical approaches for studying IDPs, illuminates their importance to critical functions like cell cycle control, transcription and translation and their regulation via cellular input signals.
