Monday April 28, 12:30 – 2:30 PM San Diego Convention Center, Room 14A, Mezzanine Level
The ASBMB Public Outreach Committee presents a workshop that will train participants to effectively communicate their science with a variety of audiences. Utilizing a rotating roundtable format, session participants will work with experts from different fields to craft targeted descriptions of their research that will serve to inform individual constituencies. Topic categories include:
- Communicating with the general public
- Communicating with the media
- Communicating with policymakers
- Communicating with K-12 audiences
Among the confirmed workshop participants are:
David DeSpain (blogger, Evolving Health)
Zack Prag (BioToasters)
Alexandra Bortnick (UC San Diego)
Gina Vogt (Milwaukee School of Engineering Center for BioMolecular Modeling)
Ben Corb (ASBMB Director of Public Affairs)
Jennifer Zeitzer (FASEB Legislative Analyst)
Registration for the workshop is required. You will be asked to rank your interest in the four topic categories. Also, in order to maximize the efficiency of the session, we ask that you come with a prepared description (either written or oral) to use in the workshop.
The workshop session will provide applicable skills training that can be further developed by utilizing available ASBMB resources, most specifically the science communication training course being developed by the Public Outreach Committee.
