Graduate Minority Travel Award Description

 

The ASBMB Graduate Minority Travel Award Program is funded through a grant to the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology (FASEB) by the NIGMS/NIH MARC Program, (FASEB MARC Program: T36-GM08059-29), to support a portion of the expenses of minority graduate students presenting research (abstract submission required) at the ASBMB Annual Meeting, held in conjunction with Experimental Biology 2012, in San Diego, CA.

Successful applicants will be reimbursed for their qualifying meeting related travel expenses following their participation in the meeting and related events noted below, up to a maximum of $1,650 US.  Reimbursement policies for this award category only are administered by the FASEB MARC Office and allow for reimbursement of meeting registration as part of the $1,650 award amount.  Specific policies will be communicated directly to recipients by the FASEB MARC Office.

Eligibility Requirements To be eligible for consideration, applicant must be a current member of ASBMB at the time of application submission and have paid their membership dues for the billing cycle which includes the 2012 Annual Meeting.

Students already funded by the MARC Program are not eligible.

Only U.S. citizens or permanent residents qualify for this award.  Applicant must be a member of a minority group currently under-represented in science.  You will be asked to select from the following NIH provided list.  Black/African American Hispanic American Latino American Chicano American American Indian/Native American Pacific Islander (Hawai'i) Pacific Islander (Guam) Pacific Islander (American Samoa)

IMPORTANT  Full participation by ALL travel award recipients is MANDATORY at the following pre-meeting events.  Travel awardees should plan to arrive at the event location by 4:00 PM on Friday, April 20.  Details will be provided to all award recipients with their award notifications.  FRI, APR 20, 2012, Travel Award Plenary Lecture and Poster Presentations  SAT, APR 21, 2012, Trainee Professional Development Program

Poster presentation during this special travel award event is in addition to the awardee's abstract presentation at the main EB2012 meeting, April 22-25, 2012.  Programming details for this second presentation will be sent in February.
