The American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology is now accepting applications for its 2010-2011 Science Policy Fellowship. The fellowship offers recently graduated PhDs an exposure to a range of activities regarding science policy, and congressional and government relations, by working in the Public Affairs office at ASBMB’s Washington, DC, area headquarters.
Doctorate degree in Molecular Biology. College teaching experience in biology required for employment. PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Ability to use computer presentation software and other appropriate visual media in biology instruction is required. Strong management skills and computer proficiency using Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel. Must have outstanding verbal, writing, editing, problem solving and interpersonal skills. Excellent communication skills and have successful experience utilizing web-based, multimedia and instructional technologies in the classroom. Demonstrate the ability to perform effectively with a high degree of independence and initiative, dealing with multiple complex tasks and issues, and have experience using the instrumentation commonly used in this field of molecular biology. Experience with Apple OS X and grant administration is preferred. Ability to teach lower-division science majors’ and biotechnology program courses. A graduate in molecular biology is highly desired (Ph.D. required). Biotechnology related work experience (other than teaching), knowledge of inquiry-based learning, and recent teaching experience in molecular biology is highly preferred.
The MIT Department of Biological Engineering invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the assistant professor level, to begin July 2010 or thereafter. Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in a science or engineering discipline related to biological engineering. A more senior faculty appointment may be considered in special cases. The candidate is expected to direct a pioneering research program that develops and applies transformative biological technologies in critical areas such as energy, the environment, nutrition, or novel materials. Faculty duties also include teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels, and supervision of student research.
