7-12 Teacher Summer Research Award (Updated)
Began in 2009, the goal of this award is to promote research-based educational activities by building connections between teachers and students in secondary schools and colleges. A secondary purpose is to present grades 7-12 students with role models and provide UAN faculty and their students with meaningful service-learning opportunities. Deadline for 2013 applications is June 3, 2013.
Outreach Support Award (Updated)
This award, in the amount of $250, is given to UAN chapters for the purpose of conducting science outreach to K-12 schools. Each UAN region is eligible for one Outreach Support Award per year. Application is accepted on a rolling basis.
Outstanding Chapter Award
Each year, a UAN chapter that demonstrates outstanding leadership and commitment to science education and promoting science literacy is recognized for its achievements. The winning chapter will receive $400 cash prize as well as $850 in travel stipend for the faculty advisor to attend the ASBMB Annual Meeting. Apply online through the ASBMB Annual Meeting website. Go to the ASBMB home page, www.asbmb.org, then look under meetings. Application deadline for this award is March 15, 2014. The award will be presented at the 2014 ASBMB Annual Meeting in San Diego, Calif.
Regional Meeting Award (Updated)
ASBMB provides funding for each UAN region to hold a small scientific meeting aimed at bringing students and faculty together and highlighting research projects. Each UAN region is eligible for one Regional Meeting Award in the amount of $600. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. Please submit your application to Weiyi Zhao at wzhao@asbmb.org.
Science Fair Award (Updated)
This is a $50 cash award presented to high school science students who demonstrate outstanding achievement in biochemistry and molecular biology research. UAN regions may apply for this award on a rolling basis. Each region is eligible for 10 Science Fair Awards each year.
UAN Travel Award (Updated)
Each travel award provides up to $400 to support a UAN student to attend the ASBMB Annual Meeting. Only students who have submitted poster abstracts by the Experimental Biology abstract submission deadline (late breaking abstracts are not eligibile) will be eligible for this award. Travel awards are divided into two categories: regional meeting travel awards and non-competitive travel awards. Download the PDF below for details. Undergraduate Research Award
The purpose of this award is to provide support for undergraduate students conducting summer research projects. The amount of each award is $1000. Each UAN region may apply for up to two awards per year. 2013 Applications are due May 17, 2013.
High School Scholarship Award
Six $1000 scholarships (one per UAN region) will be awarded to high school students working on a biochemistry and/or molecular biology related project. A UAN chapter should contact their regional director and/or the UAN chair for selection criteria and application instructions. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.
High School Research Award
Six $200 research Awards (one per UAN region) will be given to support research by high school students on a biochemistry and/or biology related project. A UAN chapter should contact their regional director and/or the UAN chair for selection criteria and application instructions. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.
