Congressman Roscoe Bartlett urges U.S. to ban research on great apes

Politico reports Rep. Roscoe Bartlett (MD-R) authored a New York Times op-ed piece presenting the case to discontinue research on primates. In April of this year Rep. Bartlett introduced the Great Ape Protection and Cost Savings Act prohibiting invasive research on great apes.

The Times article was released on the same day as a hearing by the Institute of Medicine examining whether there is still a need for chimpanzee research.
